Patmos, the northernmost island of the Dodecanese, is a gem in the Mediterranean. The landscape of the island offers both plains and hills, and a spectacular lacy coastline with picturesque bays and crystal-clear blue waters.
The old settlement of Chora with the Monastery of Saint-John the Theologian founded in the late 10th century and the Cave of the Apocalypse have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The small island is reputed to be where St John the Theologian, in exile, wrote both his Gospel and the Apocalypse. The fortified monastic complex dominates the “Island of the Apocalypse”.
